IMET2000-Pal Training; Psychiatry Training Program for Physician Scholarship, Jordan University of Science and Technology, (2020) Dr. Mamoun Basila
My name is Mamoun Basila. I’m from Hebron, Palestine. In 2014, I graduated from Cairo University in Egypt as a general doctor. Since then, I have been working as a general practitioner. When I was a child, I was thinking a lot about how I could help my society in my way, because being under the control of the occupation, we face a lot of pressure and hardships every day in our life. Therefore, I decided to choose a speciality that would help people in Palestine.IMET2000 gave me that opportunity. When I first saw the announcement of the scholarship, I immediately thought of applying to it as I was always amazed at how fascinating our mind is, and how psychiatry as a speciality will help me to understand human brains deeply. In addition to the fact that Palestine needs more psychiatrists, it does not have so many doctors in this speciality. Also, I believe it is an important field that requires a deep understanding of physical and mental health. Traumatized patients with mental issues are increasing at a steady rate due to our occupation with only a few doctors to help with such cases.I always wanted to raise awareness about this particular problem and to link it with so many organic diseases that we do not usually find an evident cause to them but a psychiatric condition. I believe that through this scholarship, I will be able to expand my knowledge and to help my people the way I always wanted. Thanks to IMET2000, I will always be grateful for them to give me such an opportunity.
